reorganize e-mail and ftp software on time

last modified 2006-05-15 14:22 — expired

as of December 1st 2005 mur.at exclusively uses encrypted variants of POP3, IMAP and FTP

as announced at the beginning of October (see the Fox-Users List archive), the plaintext versions of POP3, IMAP and FTP expire on November 30th 2005. Starting December 1st 2005 any service that requires authentication by means of typing username and password is only available through encrypted channels.

This is of concern for anyone using FTP to transport data who has not yet switched to TLS/SSL as well as for those of you who use software on their own computers to read/write e-mail. If this aplies to you please make sure you reorganize your software on time.

People who use the webmail interface to read/write e-mail, people who already use secure/encrypted channels (SSH/SFTP/SCP/FTPS** to transport data, read/write e-mail and people who login to login.mur.at and use mutt or pine do not need to change anything.

For more information see the mur.at support pages. Information there is currently german only, we are working to translate everything ASAP.
